Key Characteristics
- Foliage: The plant features broad, glossy, ovate leaves with a mix of lime-green and mint-green hues, accented by a prominent lemon-yellow midrib and light veins. The variegation’s intensity is best maintained in brighter, filtered light.
- Size: It is a compact cultivar, typically reaching an eventual indoor height of around 50 cm (20 inches), but capable of growing up to 1 meter in optimal conditions. It tends to grow wider than it grows tall.
- Toxicity: Like many Aglaonema varieties, it is toxic if ingested and can be an irritant to the skin and eyes, so it should be kept away from pets and children.
- Origin: The parent species is native to the tropical and subtropical regions of Asia and New Guinea
Care Guide
- Light: The Aglaonema ‘Lemon Mint’ thrives in most light conditions, from low light to bright, indirect light. Avoid direct sunlight, which can scorch the leaves. Lighter, more patterned leaves require slightly more light to maintain their vibrant colour.
- Water: Allow the top two inches (approx. 5 cm) of soil to dry out between waterings to prevent root rot. It is more drought-tolerant than some other houseplants, so it is better to underwater than overwater. Using filtered or rainwater can be beneficial, as the plant may be sensitive to chemicals in tap water.
- Temperature: The ideal temperature range is a stable 18-24°C (64-75°F). Avoid cold draughts or sudden temperature fluctuations from vents or heaters.
- Soil & Feeding: Use a well-draining potting mix, ideally containing perlite or orchid bark. During the spring and summer growing seasons, feed it monthly with a diluted liquid or slow-release fertiliser.
