Key Characteristics
- Appearance: Produces uniform, oblong tubers with smooth yellow skin and creamy yellow flesh.
- Texture: Described as “waxy,” making them ideal for boiling, steaming, and salads as they hold their shape well.
- Yield: A prolific producer that delivers a heavy crop quickly, often used as a “new potato”.
Planting & Growth
- Timing: Like most earlies in Ireland, they are typically planted from mid-March (around St. Patrick’s Day) and are ready to harvest about 14 weeks later.
- Chitting: It is recommended to “chit” (sprout) the tubers in a bright, cool place starting in February to give them a head start.
- Spacing: Sow roughly 15cm deep, with 25cm between tubers and 45cm between rows.
