General Care for a Tradescantia Mix
All common Tradescantia varieties share similar care preferences, making a mix easy to manage.
- Light: Thrives in bright, indirect light. Too much direct sun can scorch the leaves, while too little light causes the leaves to lose variegation and the plant to become “leggy”.
- Watering: Keep the soil lightly moist, but not waterlogged, to prevent root rot. Water when the top 1–2 inches of soil feel dry to the touch.
- Soil: Use a well-draining, nutrient-rich potting mix, often improved with perlite or sand to enhance drainage.
- Humidity: Prefers average to high humidity and enjoys occasional misting, especially in dry indoor environments.
- Pruning: Regularly pinch off or trim long stems to encourage branching and a fuller, bushier plant. Cuttings can be easily propagated in water or soil to create new plants.
