  • Appearance: Features cone-like thistle heads wrapped in a spectacular ruff of intricately cut, spiky bracts. The flowers open in midsummer as an iridescent steel-blue and deepen into a rich, lapis lazuli blue on dark purple stems. 
  • Foliage: Boasts a compact, mound-forming base of sharply chiseled, prickly gray-green leaves beautifully marbled with prominent silver-white veins. 
  • Dimensions: Typically reaches a mature height of 40–45 cm and a spread of 45–50 cm
