Growing Requirements
- ☀️ Sun Light: Thrives best in full sun, requiring at least 6 hours of direct sunlight daily to maintain its rich red colour.
- 🌱 Soil: Prefers well-drained, moderately fertile soil. It tolerates clay, loam, and poorer soils but will rot if left in waterlogged conditions.
- 💧 Watering: Water regularly after planting until established. Once mature, it has excellent drought tolerance.
- ❄️ Hardiness: Fully hardy across the UK and Ireland, surviving freezing winter temperatures without issue.
Care and Maintenance
- Deadheading: Remove spent flower heads regularly throughout the summer to prolong the blooming season and encourage fresh buds.
- Winter Interest: Leave the final autumn seed heads intact. They add architectural structure to a winter garden and feed local birds.
- Pruning: Cut the dead stems back to ground level in late winter or early spring before new growth emerges.
- Division: Lift and divide large clumps every 3 to 4 years in spring or autumn to maintain the plant’s vigour.
