Ideal Planting Locations
- Shade Borders: This plant thrives in partial to full shade. Avoid full sun, which scorches the glossy leaves and turns them yellow.
- Containers & Pots: Its compact nature makes it ideal for year-round patio pots, winter window boxes, or north-facing entryways.
- Sensory Pathways: Plant it near a walkway, door, or outdoor seating area to fully enjoy the sweet fragrance when it blooms.
Care and Maintenance
- Soil Requirements: It requires moist, well-drained, humus-rich soil. It prefers acidic to neutral pH; avoid chalky or overly lime-rich soils.
- Potting Advice: If planting in containers, always use ericaceous (acidic) compost.
- Feeding: Give it a light ericaceous fertiliser in spring right after flowering to prevent leaf yellowing (chlorosis).
- Pruning: It naturally maintains a neat shape and requires virtually no pruning
